Mud setup was way faster in the Arizona heat last summer.

I was taping a basement in Phoenix during July. The compound would skin over before I could even spread it. Ended up using cold water and working early mornings to slow it down. Curious how you all handle quick drying conditions in hot places.

Honestly, Wendy has a point. If the water's too cold, it can shock the mix and make it set up weirdly fast. I've heard of guys adding a bit of vinegar or using a retarder to really slow it down. Tbh, in extreme heat, sometimes you just have to mix tiny batches and move quick.

But doesn't the cold water trick just make it dry even faster sometimes?

In similar heat, adding a retarder and working in smaller sections saved me a lot of hassle.

Yeah I read that cold water can actually speed up the chemical reaction in some cases.
