My bathroom reno changed my mind on mesh tape for walls
I applied mesh only on the corners and paper for the long seams. Six months later, everything is still solid with no issues. Why do so many guys insist on mesh everywhere?

It's like A LOT of trades fall into that trap of adding extra steps that aren't needed. They treat it like an industry secret you HAVE to follow. Seen it with guys using three coats of mud when two would do, just because that's how they were taught. Makes simple jobs way harder than they need to be.

Tell me about it. Drives me nuts when people make things harder than they have to be. That mud example is spot on.

Right? It's like they think the mesh police will show up. @elliot697 might say it's just a time waste, but watching them do it is painful.
