My sister used duct tape instead of joint tape on drywall
She was trying to help me finish a bedroom wall and grabbed what she had. I came back to find shiny silver lines all over the seams. It took forever to remove without damaging the board. Now she jokes that her method adds 'character'.

Try using duct tape on drywall, and you're asking for trouble. In my experience, it never sticks right and leaves a mess. That 'character' she added is just extra work for you.

Yeah that "extra work" part is so true. My buddy tried to hang a poster with duct tape in his rental. When he pulled it off months later, it took a bunch of the top paper layer of the drywall right with it. Left this ugly rough patch and sticky glue bits everywhere. He had to sand it, re-spackle, and repaint the whole wall section.

Painter's tape came off clean every time.

Wait, it took the whole paper layer off? That's brutal.
