Overheard a guy at the supply house say he tapes with 90 minute mud, thought he was nuts

I was waiting to pick up my order of 5/8 firecode boards and this older dude next to me says he uses nothing but 90 minute for all his taping. My jaw kinda dropped because I've always used 20 or 45 for that part. He said the slower set lets him do bigger areas without fighting the clock, and he's been doing it for 20 years in Sacramento. Made me wonder, anyone else buck the trend and use slow mud for taping?

The "pro" way is just what's faster, not better.

Ha, yeah but does it really matter that much either way? People get so worked up over the "right" way to do stuff and honestly it's just not that deep.

The older dude next to me" thing is funny... I notice that pattern everywhere now. Like people who swear by the "wrong" way but have been doing it for decades without problems. My dad still uses a manual screwdriver for outlet boxes, says impact drivers are too rough on the tabs... he's been wiring houses since the 80s. Sometimes I think the "pro" way is just what we learned first, not what actually works best for everyone.
