PSA: I mixed a batch of compound with a cordless drill for a small patch and it came out way too airy.

It was just a quick repair in a bathroom, but the finish was full of tiny bubbles after sanding. I learned my old hand mixer gives a much tighter consistency for taping. Anyone have a good method for small batches with power tools?

Saw a tip about using a lower speed on the drill to avoid whipping air into it, maybe try that next time?

My old contractor buddy swears by high speed for mixing thin-set, says it gets fewer lumps. I tried slowing down once and ended up with a clumpy mess that took forever to smooth out. The air thing seems overblown unless you're really cranking it in a huge bucket. What kind of mix are you working with?

My drill's low speed is still too fast for small batches.
