Shoutout to the old guy who bet me I couldn't hang 50 sheets in a day

He said it at the supply yard last month, and I took it as a challenge on a big residential job. We started at 6 AM with a full crew of three, using a lift on the main floor and just stilts upstairs. We finished the last screw at 4:30 PM, and the count was exactly 52 sheets. It wasn't about the money, it was about proving a point on workflow and hustle. Anyone else ever had a bet like that push them to a new personal best?

Ever wonder why old guys at the yard make bets like that?

Yeah, I get what Terry means about breaking up the day. It's probably just a way to stay sharp when you're doing the same thing for years. Makes the time go by a little easier.

Read somewhere it's about making boring work more fun.

You ever had a buddy who does construction and bets on the color of the next pigeon that walks by? My friend Dave, he works concrete, and for three summers straight, him and his crew had this thing where they'd guess how many times the safety guy would walk past their job site before lunch. Loser had to buy everyone a six pack. It started as dumb little side bets, then next thing you know, they're timing each other's piss breaks and betting on who could finish a 10-foot pour the fastest. Dave said it made the 90-degree days feel more like a game, less like a grind. It worked for him until the foreman caught on and shut it down. Now he just plays mental bingo with passing license plates, same deal though.
