Showerthought: Lunch routines on the job feel totally different now
Thinking back to my early days, everyone on the crew had a beat-up cooler with real food from home. We'd sit on the drywall buckets, eat slow, and actually talk. Now it's all about zipping out for burgers or pizza because no one has time. I get it, jobs move faster, but we lose that chance to connect over a simple meal. Plus, eating junk all day makes you drag when sanding ceilings. I try to meal prep on Sundays to keep my energy up. Makes me wonder if the new guys even know what they're missing.

Wow, gas station burrito alone in his truck?? That's just depressing.

My buddy's crew used to swap leftovers from their coolers on the job site, like his wife's meatloaf for another guy's homemade chili. They'd sit right there on the stacked plywood and actually laugh about stupid stuff. Now he just inhales a gas station burrito alone in his truck between calls. Feels like the job got quieter even with all the machines running, you know?

Ugh, I read an article about this exact thing, and @the_joseph is totally right about the fun being gone.

Man, that hits home. Used to have a crew that did the same thing, trading sandwiches and telling dumb jokes all lunch. Now it's just headphones in, everyone on their phones. No one talks anymore, and the fun part is gone. Feels like we lost more than just shared meals.
