Tried using that new lightweight mud on a big ceiling patch in a Tacoma condo, and it sagged like crazy after 24 hours.

The rep swore it was just as strong as the heavy stuff, but I learned the hard way that sometimes the old ways, like a proper 45-minute set, are still the best for a reason, so what's your go-to mud for overhead work these days?

That "just as strong" line gets me every time. They never talk about the glue, only the weight. For a ceiling, I want something that grabs fast and cures hard, not just dries light. My rule is if I can't leave a full hawk of it upside down without it moving, it's not going up. These days, that means a bag of topping mud mixed a little thick for the first coat, no matter what the label says.

Exactly, it's all about that grab. A light mix just floats on the surface and waits to crack. You need that paste to lock in right away.

Wait, you trusted a lightweight mud on a ceiling? I'm shocked it even held for a full day. That stuff is like trying to glue a puzzle piece with water.
