Duct tape vs zip ties for a loose heat shield on my 2004 Camry
My heat shield started rattling about a month ago on the highway. I had to choose between duct tape and zip ties to hold it up. I went with duct tape because it handles engine heat better than plastic zip ties do. Three layers wrapped around the shield and the pipe, and it's been quiet for 500 miles now. Heat hasn't melted it yet, which surprised me honestly. Anyone else used duct tape on exhaust parts or am I just asking for trouble?

Zip ties can melt and snap, duct tape is the smarter move here. Keep an eye on it but you're probably fine for a while.

Duct tape on exhaust parts is definitely asking for trouble but I've done dumber stuff. Last year I used a wire coat hanger to hold up my muffler on a 98 Civic. Lasted about three days before the hanger snapped off and the muffler dragged a quarter mile down the road. Sounded like Godzilla ripping through a junkyard. Your duct tape trick is honestly genius compared to my move. If you want to play it safe though grab some exhaust wrap tape from AutoZone. It's like $8 and actually made for high heat. That way you dont have to worry about your car catching fire on the way to work.
