Fixed a broken plastic chair leg with duct tape instead of buying a new one

My patio chair snapped at the base last week and I wrapped the whole thing in gray duct tape, still holding up after 4 days of rain. Has anyone else tried taping furniture joints instead of welding or gluing them?

Tape and rain is a bold combo, but hey, if it holds through a monsoon, that chair is now a certified engineering marvel in my book.

That "certified engineering marvel" line got me thinking. If that tape job survives a real monsoon, you're basically looking at a piece of furniture with better weatherproofing than most cars I've owned. I'd say that chair deserves a spot in the garage as a backup plan, just in case the next storm catches you off guard.

Had a similar thing happen with a tarp and some old duct tape on a patio chair a few years back... that thing lasted two full seasons before the tape finally gave out. The trick is making sure the tape overlaps enough and the surface is bone dry when you put it on. Honestly, sometimes the simple fixes outshine the fancy store-bought stuff.
