My town still bans dancing on Sundays... found out the hard way
I moved to a small town in Ohio last year and decided to throw a backyard BBQ on a Sunday. We had some music playing and people were dancing a bit, nothing crazy. Next thing I know, a neighbor calls the cops on us for violating a law from 1897 that says no public dancing on Sundays. The officer just laughed and told us to keep it down, but I looked it up and it's still on the books. Has anyone else run into a weird old law that actually got enforced on you?

Yeah jumping off what shane_hayes said I think people forget that these old laws usually came from a real place in the community not just some random rule to ruin fun. Sunday really was the one day everyone had off and the whole town would be quiet for church and family time so noise from dancing and music would bug everyone trying to rest. Your neighbor probably called because they wanted that peace not because they hate fun, it's just a different way of seeing things.

Look, maybe I'm the only one who feels this way but honestly that law sounds like a good thing. Sundays should be for relaxing and going to church or spending time with family, not for having loud parties with dancing. I grew up in a town with similar rules and my grandma always said Sunday was a day of rest. If people want to dance they got six other days to do it. Plus if you read the history of that law it was meant to keep noise down so people could actually enjoy some peace and quiet on their day off. Your neighbor probably just wanted some quiet time and you were the one being disrespectful by ignoring the local culture.
