My town still has a law about bathing on Sundays

I got a warning from a cop last Sunday while washing my car in the driveway. Apparently there's an old ordinance here in Bakersfield from 1892 that bans 'unnecessary bathing' on Sundays. The officer said it's technically still enforceable. Has anyone else run into a stupid old law like this where you live?

Honestly, that "washing sins on Sunday" thing from anna's comment is hilarious, because it's probably way more true than people think. Ngl, my town has a law from the 1800s that says you can't whistle on the streets after 9pm on Sundays. I got a talking-to from an old neighbor about it a few years ago when I was just walking home from a friend's house. It's wild how these old rules are still on the books, like someone really thought whistling was gonna lead to some big Sunday sin spree or something. Tbh, it makes me wonder what other weird stuff is technically illegal that nobody even knows about.

Well, guess I'm never washing my sins away on a Sunday then, huh.

Read a piece in the paper the other day about how many old church traditions started as just practical things. Washing sins on Sunday was probably just a clever way to get people to bathe when nobody had indoor plumbing. Not sure @the_max should take it too seriously, though I bet some pastors would still love to sell that idea.
