Shoutout to the inspector who flagged my old work in a Tacoma remodel

I was sure the existing knob and tube in the attic was dead, but he insisted on a full check. His meter showed 45 volts still on a line I thought was disconnected. Has anyone else found live voltage in supposedly abandoned wiring?

Found 12 volts on an old doorbell line last month. Makes you double-check everything now.

A non-contact voltage tester is my go-to for quick checks now. Saved me from a few surprises.

Yeah, those old intercom systems can hold a charge too! Always surprises me what stays live in a house.

Right on, @irisowens, that intercom thing is a REAL eye opener. It's wild how those low voltage systems from the 70s can just sit there with power for DECADES after being abandoned. Makes me think all old wiring deserves a double check, even if it looks dead as a doornail. I always test with a contact meter now instead of just trusting my eyes or a non-contact one. Too many homes have hidden circuits that linger like ghosts in the walls.
