I finally cleaned out my old repair shop's storage unit from before 2020.
Back then, I had maybe two bins of random, mostly repairable boards from TVs and monitors. Now, after four years of people just replacing stuff, it's like eight bins full of identical, newer boards that are just dead. The shift from 'this capacitor blew' to 'the whole BGA package is cooked' is insane. Has anyone else's scrap pile just completely changed character?

Wait, did you mean to say the newer boards are from before 2020? Because the post says the storage is from before 2020, but the eight bins are newer boards from the last four years. That's the whole point, the scrap changed after 2020 when everything became less repairable.

Started selling the newer boards for parts to hobbyists, got way more interest than expected.

Oh wow, that's actually smart though. So are you selling them as untested parts boards or do you sort them first? I'm curious because @thomas_sanchez had a point about them being older tech, but hobbyists seem to not care as long as the price is right. Do you find certain boards sell better than others, like the ones with more common connector types?

Makes sense, people love to tinker. Those are technically older boards though, not the newest models.
