Overheard a guy at the supply counter say he never checks for cold solder joints first

He said he always goes straight for the ICs, which seems backwards to me. A bad joint on a power rail is way more common and costs nothing to fix with a quick reflow. How do you guys structure your initial checks?

That guy at the supply counter is skipping the most basic step. I find a bad solder joint on a connector or power pin at least half the time.

Sounds about right for that counter, honestly.

It's a universal rule, like @roberts.leo said, where skipping basics just guarantees a problem later.
