Spent $80 on a thermal camera for my phone and it's already paid for itself on one job

Honestly, that's the best kind of tool buy. You find one leak in a wall or a bad connection in an electrical panel, and the whole thing is covered. It turns a guessing game into a five minute fix. I've seen guys waste half a day cutting drywall just to find a pipe, so skipping that is huge. Makes you look like a wizard to the client, too.

My old boss called his thermal camera the "customer satisfaction machine." He'd wave it around like a magic wand, point at a wall, and say "the leak is right there" with total confidence. The look on people's faces when you skip the guesswork is priceless. It's basically a cheat code for looking like you know exactly what you're doing, even on a bad day.

Always thought those things were just a cool toy for seeing heat leaks in your house. Then my buddy showed me his on a service call. We found a bad breaker in a panel in about two minutes, one that was just warm to the touch. Would have been poking around for an hour with a meter and my hand. Totally changed my view on what's a gimmick and what's a real tool.
