A firefighter in Chicago told me our elevator recall switch saved his team 15 minutes during a call.

Has anyone else had emergency crews specifically thank them for a code feature you installed?

Fifteen minutes in a fire sounds like forever, that's insane.

Label your main shutoff valve with bright paint or tape. Keep the path to it clear of storage boxes and junk. A firefighter with an air tank isn't going to move your Christmas decorations to find it. Same goes for your electrical panel. Seconds count when things are going wrong.

Ever have a plumber thank you for an easy shut off valve? Had one last year who said our labeled main water line saved his whole afternoon. He was used to hunting through crawl spaces with a flashlight. Makes you realize how the small stuff we take for granted is someone else's big headache.

And the labeled electrical panel thing is huge too, I’ve heard the same from fire crews who said they’ve spent critical minutes flipping wrong breakers. It’s wild how little stuff like that can totally change how fast they can get inside and start working.
