Blew $400 on a controller board I didn't need

Had an MCE elevator acting up. Flashing error code 42. I was sure it was the main controller board. Ordered a new one from the supplier. $400 later plus shipping. Turns out it was just a loose wire on the door lock relay. Coulda fixed it in 5 minutes with a screwdriver. Anyone else jump to the expensive fix first?

Honestly read somewhere that like 80% of elevator callbacks are just bad connections or loose wires. Sucks that they always sell you the expensive part first though.

Yeah I've noticed that pattern everywhere, not just elevators. @christopherw34 it's wild how often simple fixes get overlooked because everyone jumps to the most expensive solution first. Makes you wonder how much money gets wasted on parts nobody needed in the first place.

Wait, 80%?? That's actually insane. No way that's real but I lowkey believe it having dealt with my own share of bs repairs. Landlord called an electrician once for a flickering light and dude tried to sell them a whole new panel. Turned out it was just a loose bulb. People really out here trying to make bank off the simplest stuff.
