I thought the new safety code for door zone clearance was just more paperwork
Had a job in Chicago last year where the old 2-inch rule felt fine, but the new 2019 ASME A17.1 spec says 3 inches. I fought it until I saw a worn sheave cause a car to drift just enough that the old clearance would have been a real pinch point. Now I'm a believer. What's the one code change that made you change your mind?

Honestly, I used to think the whole annual load test thing was just a money grab. Then I saw a set of cables that looked fine snap during a routine inspection. Now I get why they want that regular check.

What snapped them, like was it just age or something else?

Right? It's crazy what you can't see just by looking. I had a safety line fail during a demo once, looked totally solid from the outside. That yearly test is cheap compared to the other option.
