That moment I forgot to check the governor tension on a 10 stop mod
We were finishing up a mod at a 6 story office building downtown last Thursday. Got the doors timed perfect, safeties checked, but I skipped the governor cable tension because I figured it was fine from the factory setup. Ropes started bouncing during the final test run and the car jammed between floors. Took us 3 hours to reset and re-tension everything with a tensionometer. Anyone else had a governor issue that looked fine on paper but totally failed in the field?

Hold up, I gotta push back on this one. A 10 stop mod with governor tension straight from the factory is usually dead on. Ive done over a dozen mods this year and never had a single bounce issue with factory tension. If you had rope bounce on a final test run, its way more likely the rails or the car slippers got misaligned during the install, not the governor. We just finished a 5 stop last month where the car drifted because someone tightened the guide shoes wrong. Did you check the rail brackets for level before blaming the governor?

Haha yeah man I've been there too! Last year on a 12 stop I had the exact same thought, governor looked perfect out of the box, but as soon as we loaded it up the ropes started dancing like crazy. Took us half a day to figure out it was the factory tension after all, not the rails or shoes.
