TIL that adjusting the door hanger roller depth by 1/8 inch fixed a chronic leveling issue
Had a 2017 Otis Gen2 in a 12-story building in Austin that kept throwing door fault codes every three weeks. After replacing the belts and track sensors I was still getting complaints. I finally grabbed my feeler gauge and found the top roller was sitting 1/8 inch deeper than the bottom one. Has anyone else had to shim those Gen2 hangers to get them to track straight?

Claire is right, the Gen2 switched to top rollers only. I've shimmed a few of those hangers on the same model in a 15-story building in Dallas. The 1/8 inch difference is a common issue if the track gets slightly bent or the hanger bracket wears unevenly. I ended up using thin brass shims behind the top roller bracket to get both rollers tracking level, and it stopped the door fault codes completely. That adjustment is a real time saver once you know to check it.

Just a heads up, the Gen2 uses top rollers only.

Wait, is that really true for all of them? I thought the Gen2 kept the bottom rollers like the old ones. Claire, are you sure about that? I haven't cracked one open yet but that would be a weird change. Maybe they got tired of dealing with the bottom track issues. Good to know though, I'll have to watch for that on my next call.
