Was in a 1980s office building in Akron yesterday and every single elevator had a different brand of controller retrofit
Seriously, it was wild. One was a Montgomery, the next was an Otis, then a Dover. The super said they just fix whatever breaks with whatever part they can get. Makes me wonder if anyone else has seen a building that's basically a museum of elevator tech. How do you even stock parts for that?

Honestly that's the story of my own car. Got parts from like five different junk yards, a couple aftermarket catalogs, and I'm pretty sure the passenger window motor is from a lawnmower. It runs, but if it ever fully dies I'm just pushing it into a lake because no one will ever figure out what's in it.

My buddy's apartment building in Cleveland has three elevators, each one a different decade of Schindler parts. The maintenance guy told him they just keep a bin of random old circuit boards and hope one works. It feels like keeping a classic car running, but for a whole building.
