Read a comment from a bridal makeup artist and it flipped my view on silicone primers
I was scrolling through a thread about wedding prep and this one artist said she stopped using silicone primers because they flash back in flash photography. She said she uses a hydrating gel instead and her brides look better in photos. I never thought about that. I have been using a cheap silicone primer for years on everyone. Tried the hydrating gel on my sister before her engagement shoot last weekend and the photos came out way more natural. Has anyone else run into primer issues with camera flashes?

Wrong. Silicone fills in pores better than any gel ever could.

Oh man, you just reminded me of this time I tried a silicone primer for the first time... my friend swore by it and I bought this expensive one from Sephora. Put it on before a wedding and my makeup just slid right off by the time we got to the reception... turned out I was using it all wrong, like way too much. But yeah, I get what you mean about filling pores, but with my dry skin silicone just makes me look kinda flaky after a few hours. Gels at least let me breathe a little, you know?

Brooo your story is literally me lmao. I bought that same expensive silicone primer and ended up using a pea size and it still felt like I had a plastic mask on after an hour. What actually worked for me was switching to a hydrating gel primer with like aloe and hyaluronic acid in it. I put it on while my face is still a little damp from moisturizer and it stays put all day without getting flaky. Might be worth a shot if you still want that smooth look without the silicone disaster zone.
