The day a bride-to-be talked me into trying brow lamination
I used to think brow lamination was a total gimmick, like something that would just wear off in a week and leave people looking crazy. Last fall, a client came in for her wedding trial and she was dead set on it, even though I kept pushing my usual wax and tint combo. She sat in my chair for 20 minutes explaining how her natural brows are super unruly and she wanted that fluffy, brushed-up look for photos. I finally agreed to do it just to prove myself wrong, and I'll be honest, the results were pretty solid even after 6 weeks. That one interaction made me realize I was dismissing a technique without really understanding the need some clients have. Now I offer it as an option for anyone with thick or stubborn brows, and I've had way fewer complaints. Has anyone else here changed their mind on a service after a specific client pushed back?

My friend actually had almost the exact same thing happen but with gel nails. She ran a little salon and kept pushing regular polish on everyone because she thought gel was just a cash grab. One of her regulars basically begged her to try it before a vacation and my friend caved. She ended up loving how long the gel lasted on that client and now she does gel on almost everyone who walks in the door. It's funny how one person pushing back can totally flip your whole perspective on something lol.

Why would your friend assume gel is a cash grab when it clearly saves clients time and frustration, @nguyen.blake?

Maybe it's just me but did your friend feel like she was compromising her standards at first or was it more about stubbornness? I only ask because that's the part I still wrestle with sometimes, admitting a client might know better than me. It's wild how pride can almost cost you a good technique until someone calls you on it.
