Watched a new hire at my spa in Phoenix use a comedone extractor on active acne
I saw it happen last Tuesday during a training shift, and I had to step in. She was pressing down on inflamed pustules, which can push bacteria deeper and cause scarring. I learned that from my mentor years ago, and it's basic stuff from esthetician school. How do you guys handle correcting technique without making someone feel bad?

Did you show her the right way to do it right then?

So what exactly was the "right way" in that moment? Like, were you supposed to stop everything and give a full lesson, or just a quick tip?

Just a quick tip" is how you create bad habits. You have to stop and show the right way, or they'll keep doing it wrong.

Hmm, I get what you're saying about stopping to show the right way, but "just a quick tip" CAN be the right way sometimes if the person is already halfway decent at the thing. A full lesson right then might overwhelm them more than help if they just need one little tweak to fix it. It really depends on the person and what they're doing wrong in the moment.
