My lawn went from brown to green in 10 days after I stopped watering every day

I saw this claim on a gardening forum that watering grass every day makes roots weak and shallow. I was watering my St. Augustine lawn in Austin every morning last summer and it still looked rough. So I tried watering deep just twice a week for 20 minutes each time. After 10 days the color changed big time and the grass felt thicker. Anyone else have luck with cutting back on watering?

Sorry but roots will go deep for water even if you water shallow every day.

Heard a guy on a podcast say grass roots only go as deep as you water.

Kind of like how people who hover over you all the time end up needing more help than the ones you leave alone.
