Saw a TikTok claiming microwaving your phone charger fixes broken cables
Tbh I tried it with my old iPhone cable that was fraying at the end, wrapped it in a damp paper towel for 10 seconds like the video said, and now it literally sparks when I plug it in. Anyone else find a actual fix that doesn't risk a fire?

Respectfully, @kim_ramirez3, I actually got that trick to work fine with my charger, maybe the time just needs adjusting.

God yes, my cable went up in smoke after that stupid trick. I had this old Android charger that was barely holding on at the connector, tried the damp paper towel microwave thing for 15 seconds and it literally melted the plastic around the tip when I plugged it in. The smell was terrible. What actually worked for me was wrapping the frayed part in electrical tape really tight, like three layers, then putting a bit of hot glue over the whole thing to seal it. Still using that cable six months later and no sparks. That TikTok hack is a straight up fire hazard, like my apartment almost went up.

Miles, glad you avoided a real disaster with that hot glue trick. I've seen the paper towel thing making the rounds too and it makes no sense from an electrical standpoint. Even if the timing is off by a few seconds, you're risking a short or worse. Your tape and glue method sounds solid though. Might try that on my own frayed cable before it gets bad enough to spark.
