Pro tip: that 'easy open' peanut butter lid trick is a lie
I tried the thing where you tap the jar upside down on the counter to loosen the lid, and it just made a mess on my kitchen floor last Tuesday. All I got was a dented jar and peanut butter smeared on my hand. Ended up using a rubber band for grip, which actually worked way better. Has anyone else found a hack that's just totally useless?

Honestly, that thing about tapping the side of the lid with a spoon... I've tried it too and it mostly just makes a dull clanking noise. The hot water trick is the only one that's ever saved me from a stubborn jar, and even then you gotta let it sit for a good minute or two. The pliers move is way more reliable than half the kitchen hacks folks swear by.

Read somewhere that tapping the side of the lid with a spoon actually works better than the whole upside down jar thing. Did you try running hot water over the lid first? That's the only trick that ever helped me.

3 weeks ago my friend Deb spent a solid 7 minutes fighting a pickle jar. She tried the hot water thing @the_piper recommended, then she tried tapping the lid with a butter knife, then she tried the upside down smack on the counter trick. Nothing worked, not even the rubber grip pad she keeps in her kitchen drawer. Finally she just took a pair of pliers from her tool box and twisted the lid off in 2 seconds flat. Total defeat for physics that day.
