A vet in Boise told me my quarter crack trim was 'like putting a band-aid on a broken leg' last fall.

Lol that sounds a bit dramatic. Quarter cracks are super common, and a good trim can totally buy you time. Did the horse actually go lame or was the vet just being extra?

Nah man, a quarter crack can go deep into sensitive tissue real fast. It's not just about a trim if it's a bad one.

You ever seen one that's gone septic? Because that's where this is headed if you ignore it. Michael_green44 is right that some vets overreact, but a deep quarter crack isn't a maybe thing. It's a direct path for infection to hit the laminae. A trim might help a mild case, but if it's deep, you're looking at a bar shoe and months of rehab, not just a quick fix. Trying to cheap out now costs way more later.
