Had a horse with a persistent quarter crack that just would not hold a patch.

Tried every standard patch and glue for months, nothing lasted more than two weeks. Out of pure frustration, I mixed a little bit of super fine copper mesh into my acrylic filler before setting the patch. That was six months ago, and the crack is still solid and growing out clean. Has anyone else tried mixing something into their filler for extra hold?

That copper mesh trick is brilliant, honestly. I've heard of people using fiberglass strands for a similar reason, to add some structure to the patch. Makes total sense that the mesh gives the acrylic something solid to grip onto instead of just sitting on the hoof wall. Might have to remember that one.

Exactly, it's like how a trellis helps a vine grow. People are always finding clever ways to give weak things a solid foundation. That kind of smart fix pops up everywhere once you start looking for it.

Yeah, that "smart fix pops up everywhere" feeling is the best lol.
