Had to pick between a new anvil or fixing my old truck this month

My 150 pound Trenton has a chipped heel and the repair would cost about $500. The truck needed new brakes, which was almost the same price. I went with the anvil because I have three big draft horse clients lined up for next week and need a solid face. Just finished dressing it down and it's holding a perfect edge now. Anyone else ever put their gear before their ride?

My neighbor's garage is full of restored tools but his car sits on blocks. People invest in what makes them money, even if it looks odd from the outside. The truck can wait when your work depends on that anvil.

Isn't it funny how we'll patch up our tools before we'll fix our own transportation? I've noticed that pattern all through life, people will spend on what lets them do their work before they'll spend on getting themselves around. It's like we trust our hands more than our vehicles, and maybe that says something about where we think our real value lives.

Good call on the anvil. I welded up a chip on my Hay-Budden last year and it's been solid. Just make sure you keep the heat low and slow to avoid messing up the temper. A cold chisel will tell you if the repair took.

Trentons don't have heels, that's the horn.
