My go-to method for protecting rasps on road trips
I use PVC pipes with end caps. They're CHEAP and save my tools from getting banged up.

Guess your rasps are traveling in first class while the rest of your tools just get tossed in the trunk. Seriously, PVC pipe bodyguards, what's next, a velvet-lined case for your files? You've got this tool safety thing down to a science, man.

That six-dollar rasp gets the PVC because it's the one I use on every single project. The screwdrivers can handle a little rattling around, but a dinged-up rasp teeth is useless. I did look at velvet-lined cases, but they seem way too fussy for the shop. Honestly, the plastic tube is just the right mix of safe and simple. If I pamper them any more, they'll start asking for bubble wrap blankets next.

Safe and simple with that plastic tube, yeah. Saw a forum post once where guys were using old tennis ball cans for rasps. Same idea, keeps the teeth from getting messed up.

Totally get it, @taraross, my old film canister does the same job!
