Question about bar trimming and lameness

I used to trim bars aggressively, but a horse developing a sore foot made me stop.

That's a pretty big leap from one sore foot. Could have been a ton of other things causing it.

See it all the time with small symptoms.

My old gelding went lame last spring after a trim. The farrier had taken too much heel off one side. It took six weeks of careful work to get him sound again. Sometimes the trim really is the main problem.

Wait, you stopped your whole trimming method because of one sore foot? That's like never driving again because you got a flat tire one time. I've seen horses get sore from a bad step on a rock, from a slight abscess brewing, even from the weather changing. You can't pin everything on the trim.
