When every nail bent: how I handled a rock-hard hoof wall

This quarter horse had hooves like iron, and my usual nails kept bending. I switched to a harder nail type and pre-drilled small pilot holes. The shoe held firm without causing cracks. It was a learning curve, but now I always check hoof density first. Anyone have other tricks for tough hooves?

Is a hard hoof wall even a real problem compared to other stuff?

Ever tried to trim one that felt like concrete?

Oh man, I spent way too long thinking I just had a bad swing when the nails bent. Turns out I was just fighting a hoof tougher than my old truck's bumper. I felt pretty silly once I figured it out.

How often do we blame ourselves before realizing the task was just really hard?
