Got stuck on a weird concrete post base in a job near Spokane

We were setting a vinyl fence line and hit a spot where the old concrete footing was way off center. I mean, it was a full 8 inches from our string line. We tried to chip it out with a demo hammer for like an hour, but it was solid. Ended up having to core drill a new hole right next to it, which took another two hours just for that one post. Has anyone else had to deal with a surprise old base that messed up their whole layout?

Man, that sounds exactly like my luck. I once spent half a day on a chunk of concrete that turned out to be an old birdbath base someone just buried. The boss still gives me grief about it. What's the weirdest thing you've found buried on a job?

Ugh that sounds like a total nightmare. Did you check if the old base was even for a fence or could it have been some random leftover from a totally different project? Sometimes you find the weirdest stuff buried out there.
