Saw a fence in my neighborhood leaning hard after just one season

The crew set the posts in pure clay without any gravel or drainage. We got a wet spring here in Ohio, and the whole line shifted like a wave. I know because the homeowner called me to fix it, and we had to pull eight posts. Has anyone else seen this happen with certain soil types?

My uncle's fence in Dayton has been in pure clay for 15 years and it's still straight. It's all about how deep you set those posts.
