Finally got my wind turbine spinning steady after 3 tries in the backyard

I live up near Duluth and after a storm knocked a branch into my old setup, I rebuilt the mount with a taller pole and better guy wires. Has anyone else dealt with tree debris messing with their turbine placement?

Dude, same here - my turbine ate a pinecone last week and nearly shook itself apart!

Phoenix_bailey is exactly right about the field setup - I did the same thing after a branch snapped off and caught my blades at the wrong moment. That pinecone story is all too familiar, mine took a direct hit from a walnut last fall and I thought the whole thing was coming down. Moving out to open space is the only real fix, even if it means running more cable.

Your turbine ate a pinecone" is a great mental image. I'm up by Duluth too, and I learned the hard way that trees and turbines just don't mix. I moved my whole setup out into the open field, away from any overhang. Worth the extra wire run to not worry about every gust bringing down a branch.
