Overheard a lineman say the grid is 'scarier than people know' at a diner
I was grabbing breakfast in Denver last week and two utility guys were talking at the next table. One said the substation near Littleton is running on transformers from the 70s and they're just patching stuff together. That got me thinking how fragile the whole system really is. I've been putting off getting solar panels for 3 years but this pushed me to finally call a guy for a quote on a 5kW setup. Anyone else worried about the grid's actual condition or am I overreacting based on one conversation?

Used to roll my eyes at preppers but that changes your mind real quick.

A buddy of mine @beth276 started stockpiling after a blackout hit his street for four days.

Yeah @kaigibson, once you see how fast things fall apart you start thinking different about having supplies around.

Four days with no power, that's enough to make anyone rethink their whole setup.
