I saw a report that 42% of people think a 10 year old tweet should be off limits for firing

That number really surprised me. It came from a survey last month about social media and jobs. I thought more people would say anything you post is always fair game, but a lot of folks draw a line at old posts. Has anyone here lost a job over something they wrote online a long time ago?

Honestly, it's wild how far back people dig. I got in trouble once for a dumb joke I made in a forum like fifteen years ago.

Ugh, been there. What did you end up doing, @amy_craig28? My move is to just own it, say it was dumb, and move on. People forget fast.

Totally feel that! My old gaming forum posts from high school still haunt me sometimes. Best thing is to just say "yep, that was dumb, I was a kid" and move forward. People usually get bored if you don't make a big deal out of it.
