My coworker in Denver got canned for a dumb joke about the company coffee
He posted a pic of our office's burnt coffee pot on his private Instagram story with the caption 'the real reason productivity is down' and tagged three other people from work. HR saw it through a friend of a friend and fired him two days later for 'damaging company morale'. Honestly feels like a huge overreaction for a joke everyone in the breakroom was already making. Has anyone else seen someone get let go over something that petty?

Yeah, @drew_hart4 is right, they watch everything now.

Had a buddy who got written up for posting a meme about the office thermostat on his private story. Someone he thought was a friend passed it to their boss and boom, formal warning. It’s wild how fast things can backfire over something you think is harmless.

Honestly that's pretty wild they fired him for that. I mean, I used to think posting work stuff online was no big deal if your account was private. But my friend got in major trouble for something similar, just venting about a long meeting in a group chat. It really showed me companies are watching way closer than you think, even for dumb jokes. They treat any public complaint like you're badmouthing them to the whole world. Maybe it's just me but that zero tolerance stuff feels like they're looking for reasons sometimes.

Totally, and it's not even just about being public. I mean, screenshots get passed around so easy now. My old job had this whole thing where someone's private story got sent to a manager by a "friend" at work. It's like you can't trust any digital space connected to your real name.
