My coworker in Denver got canned over a 3 year old joke tweet
Honestly, it was the worst week at our office. On Monday, HR called him in and fired him on the spot because someone dug up an old, dumb joke he made about our CEO's haircut. The tweet was from 2021 and had like 12 likes. Tbh, it felt so unfair because he was a great worker and the tweet was ancient. Our whole team was just shocked for days. Has anyone else seen someone get fired for something that old and minor?

My old boss got canned for the same thing, so I scrubbed my whole social media history clean.

Honestly I read a piece about how companies are now scanning years back for this stuff.

Best thing you can do is set up Google alerts for your name and just let that run passive in the background. @rowan_wells30 is right that it feels like overkill, but companies are getting weird about old posts now so better safe than sorry.

Wow, that's absolutely wild. Did HR even give a real reason, or was it just because the CEO got offended? Feels like a huge overreaction for a three year old joke.
