Realized I was the problem for years after my stupid political rant got shared around town
I was always the one saying 'free speech means free speech' but back in 2017 I posted something ugly about a local councilor in Portland and my boss at the print shop got 15 angry voicemails before 9am. Looking back, I wasn't being brave, I was just being a jerk with a keyboard. Has anyone else had that moment where you look at an old post and cringe at who you used to be?

That Portland councilor had it coming and free speech means taking heat for your words, not just posting them.

Keep receipts and stay calm if you can, because reacting only makes things worse, right?

Man oh man, I feel that one deep. I had this whole phase where I thought being loud and angry about politics made me look smart or something. Then my sister showed me a screenshot of something I posted about a local housing vote and I barely recognized myself. It was like looking at a different person, someone who was just trying to score points instead of actually helping anything. That cringe feeling is rough but it's also kind of a good sign that you've grown up some.
