Saw a guy get walked out of the office park for a dumb meme he posted

It was a joke about the CEO, but they said it broke the social media policy from the handbook. Has your company ever actually fired someone over something that small?

My old warehouse job canned a guy for posting a picture of a messy break room fridge. They absolutely will use that handbook stuff if they want someone gone. Best to keep the work rants off the main feed.

Actually @martin.riley, that's often legal if the post broke a clear company policy.

My buddy got fired from a call center for posting a photo of his desk with a sticky note that said "this place is a disaster." They pulled up the employee handbook and said he violated their social media policy about bringing the company into disrepute. The sticky note didn't even name anyone, just a general vent. He tried to argue it was a private account with like 50 friends, but they didn't care. Take it from his experience - if a manager wants you gone, they'll dig through that handbook like it's scripture. Probably better off just keeping those rants between close friends in a group chat.

Remember they can always find a policy you broke if they want you gone.
