Thinking back to early Facebook days makes me cringe now
We used to treat social media like a private joke with friends. I posted silly opinions and bad photos without a second thought. Now, I hear about folks getting canned for tweets they wrote ten years ago. A guy in my town lost his teaching job over a meme he shared in college. Employers scan everything you've ever put online before they offer a job. It's scary how a dumb moment from your past can blow up your present. Do you ever worry about your old posts coming back to bite you?

Yeah, I read that about Finland too, but idk, it still feels risky.

Totally get that fear. Everything online is permanent, even if you delete it. Someone always has a screenshot. It’s crazy how a dumb joke from years ago can ruin a career now. We all grew up online without knowing the rules. That teacher story is a perfect example of how harsh it can be. Makes you double-check every single thing before you hit post.

Finland actually studied this and found most old social media posts don't actually damage careers long term. I see what you mean, patc77, but the total scrubbing approach feels like panic to me. People understand context changes, and plenty of bad takes get walked back without lasting harm. The fear is real, but the permanent ruin idea gets overplayed.

Man, a politician's campaign got wrecked last year over old forum posts. That's why I scrubbed all my old accounts clean.
