Unpopular opinion: My old boss was right to fire that guy for his political rant on Facebook.

He posted a video calling half our customers 'idiots' by name after the last election. Got fired the next day. Some say free speech, I say you can't trash the people who pay your bills. Where do you draw the line?

Totally fair to lose your job over that.

My buddy in Phoenix lost his job over a similar tweet last year.

Yeah, that's the risk these days. Companies watch social media like hawks. If you put your real name out there, they can find it. Your buddy learned the hard way that your online life isn't separate from your job anymore. It's just not worth it.

Wow, that's rough. I actually read something just last week about how employers are using AI tools now to scan public social media posts for anything that might reflect badly on the company. It's not just HR looking manually anymore, they have software that flags keywords and stuff. Makes you wonder if we're all one hot take away from a pink slip. You can't even vent about bad traffic or a crummy customer without it coming back to bite you. It's getting to the point where having a public account is a liability.
