Can we talk about that $50 composting bin I bought on a whim?
I dropped $50 on a countertop composting bin thinking it was just another eco-friendly trend that would sit and stink. Three weeks in, it actually cut my kitchen trash down by half and my plants look amazing with the extra soil. The trick was a charcoal filter that keeps the smell away, which I didn't expect to work this well. Has anyone else had luck with one of those or did it just become a fruit fly magnet?

Same! I got one of those countertop bins last month and it's honestly been a game changer for me too. The charcoal filter really does keep the smell down way better than I thought it would. My kitchen doesn't stink and my plants are living their best lives now with the compost mixed in.

Hate to be that person but I actually stopped using mine after a few weeks. The filter helped with smell but I kept getting fruit flies no matter what I did.

Yeah I had the fruit fly thing happen too, but I started burying the food scraps under a layer of dry leaves or paper and that fixed it. Keeping a small bowl of vinegar near the bin also caught the stragglers without any extra work. Only took a couple tweaks to make it super low maintenance.
