Found out how much a bad glue job can actually cost a homeowner

I was reading a trade magazine article yesterday and it said a failed glue-down vinyl plank install can lead to over $10,000 in subfloor repair. The article explained that if the adhesive fails unevenly, it can trap moisture and cause the subfloor to rot in spots. They had a case study from a job in Tampa where the whole floor had to be ripped out and the plywood replaced. I always knew it was a big deal, but seeing that number really hit home. What's the worst adhesive failure you've had to fix?

That Tampa case study is a real eye opener. I've seen a few where the moisture damage spread to the base of the walls.

Yeah, that's the worst part.

Tell me about it. Watched a house down the street get stripped to the studs because they ignored a slow leak under the kitchen sink. The subfloor was totally spongy and black mold crawled up the back of the cabinets.

Oh man, that is a nightmare! I feel so bad for that homeowner in Tampa, that's just devastating. It's crazy how something that seems small like a glue issue can turn into a massive, expensive problem like that. You really don't think about the subfloor at all until something goes horribly wrong with it. I hope more people see these stories before they run into the same situation.
