I finally gave those plastic floor spacers a shot after years of using wood scraps.
Always thought they were a gimmick, but they kept a consistent 3/8-inch gap on a big glue-down job last week. Anyone else switch from old methods to something simple that actually worked better?

Honestly, they're a total game-changer.

Wait, isn't the standard gap supposed to be 1/4 inch, not 3/8? I could be wrong, but that's what I've always gone by. I agree with @faith_shah88 that the spacers are a huge help, though. Using random wood pieces always gave me a gap that was a little off here and there. With the spacers, at least it's the same mistake everywhere, you know? Makes the whole floor look way more even.

I mean, the gap size debate is the real flooring hill people choose to die on. At least with spacers you get a consistent wrong answer instead of a messy one. Feels like progress to me.
