Rant: My buddy in Phoenix swears by a different way to cut around toilet flanges
He was working on a big apartment complex last month and showed me his trick. He uses a jigsaw with a downstroke blade instead of an oscillating tool for the final trim. Said it gives a cleaner, less chipped edge on the vinyl plank, especially with the waterproof core stuff. I tried it on a bathroom remodel this week and it really was smoother. Anyone else have a go-to method for those tight flange cuts?

Never considered using a laminate trimmer for that.

Oh totally! I've done the exact same thing with a utility knife for a clean edge. That final scoring pass makes all the difference on cheap laminate. It's a solid trick for when you don't have a router handy.

Yeah, that jigsaw trick is a good one. I've had luck with a sharp utility knife and a steady hand for a final scoring pass after the rough cut. It takes a bit longer, but you can really control that last little bit and avoid any tear-out on the surface layer.
