Warning: a homeowner in Scottsdale asked me to install her new tile over old linoleum
I was doing a quote for a kitchen floor last Tuesday, and she pointed at the old sheet vinyl and said, 'Can't you just put the new stuff on top? It'll save time.' I had to explain that even with a perfect skim coat, you're building a failure right into the job. The adhesive won't bond correctly, and the whole floor will feel soft. Has anyone else had to talk a client out of this recently? It seems like a common DIY idea.
